About me
Hi, I'm Phan The Trung, a Backend Developer based in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, with more than 3 years of experience building reliable, scalable web systems. Most of my time goes into writing PHP, designing APIs and tuning database performance.
My stack
The tools I work with every day:
- Backend: Laravel, PHP, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redis
- Infrastructure: Docker, Nginx, AWS (EC2, S3, RDS)
- Focus areas: REST API design, database optimisation, payment integration (Stripe), third-party service integrations
- Assistants: GitHub Copilot, Gemini — AI speeds me up, it is not a crutch
The developer tools on this site are the small utilities I reach for while coding — JSON formatting, JWT decoding, hashing, UUIDs and more. They run entirely in your browser, so your data never leaves your device. The blog itself is written in Vietnamese and covers Laravel, system design, DevOps and lessons learned from real projects.
How I build software
I approach problems from first principles: understand why something works before looking for shortcuts. Every architectural decision should be backed by evidence, not just habit or convention. I believe code quality and delivery speed are not at odds — good structure makes you faster in the long run. Continuous improvement is not a slogan but a daily habit: read, build, reflect.
Building TobyBlog is part of that journey — teaching others is the deepest way to learn.
