Base64 Encode / Decode

Encode and decode Base64 with full UTF-8 support and a URL-safe option.

Your data is processed entirely in your browser and is never sent to a server.

How to use Base64 Encode / Decode

  1. Type or paste your text into the Input box.
  2. Click Encode to convert it to Base64, or Decode to turn a Base64 string back into text.
  3. Turn on URL-safe when the string goes into a URL or a JWT (replaces + / with - _ and drops the = padding).
  4. Click Copy to grab the result.

Frequently asked questions

Is Base64 encryption?

No. Base64 only turns data into plain characters so it can travel through email, URLs or JSON. Anyone can decode it, so never use it to hide passwords.

Why do emoji or accented characters break in other Base64 tools?

Many tools call btoa() directly, which only handles Latin-1 characters. This tool encodes through UTF-8, so emoji and accented letters come back intact when you decode.

What is the difference between URL-safe and standard Base64?

URL-safe Base64 replaces + with -, / with _ and usually drops the trailing =, so the string can be used in a URL. When decoding, the tool accepts both forms.
