URL Encode / Decode

Encode and decode URLs, and break a URL down into its parts.

Your data is processed entirely in your browser and is never sent to a server.

How to use URL Encode / Decode

  1. Paste a URL or any text into the Input box.
  2. Click Encode to turn spaces and special characters into %XX sequences; click Decode to reverse it.
  3. If the input is a full URL, the URL parts table shows the protocol, host, path and every decoded query parameter.

Frequently asked questions

When do I need to URL-encode?

Whenever you put spaces, non-ASCII characters or symbols like & ? = # into a query parameter. For example ?q=café & bar must become ?q=caf%C3%A9%20%26%20bar.

Why does + in a URL sometimes turn into a space?

In form data (application/x-www-form-urlencoded), + means a space. To keep a literal plus sign you have to encode it as %2B.

What is the URL parts table for?

It lets you read long URLs from logs or tracking links at a glance: every utm_, id or redirect parameter, without splitting them by hand.
