Hash Generator

Generate MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256 and SHA-512 hashes from text.

Results update as you type.

MD5 and SHA-1 are no longer safe for storing passwords; only use them to check data integrity (checksums). Store passwords with bcrypt or Argon2.

Your data is processed entirely in your browser and is never sent to a server.

How to use Hash Generator

  1. Type or paste text into the Text box.
  2. MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256 and SHA-512 hashes are calculated and updated as you type.
  3. Click Copy next to the hash you need.

Frequently asked questions

Can an MD5 or SHA-256 hash be reversed?

No. Hash functions are one-way. Sites that "decrypt MD5" simply look the hash up in a table of strings they already know.

Should I use MD5 or SHA-1 to store passwords?

No. They are far too fast and have known collision attacks. Store passwords with bcrypt or Argon2 — for example Hash::make() in Laravel.

Why is my hash different from another tool?

Usually because of a trailing space, a trailing newline or a different character encoding. This tool hashes exactly what you typed, encoded as UTF-8.
